Each week we will show a trial that we think contains a future winner. Put them into your Black Book.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 28th October 2019.....
Laverrod sat off pace in the run, gave chase from the 250m under gentle riding, 2L off at the 200m, 1.25L off at the 100m & went home best to win by half a length in quick time from Downforce with a further 4.5L back to 3rd. Was only a head off Mia Dolce last prep & looks to have a maiden win in it this prep. Laverrod contested two Listed races after this trial - placed in both - before breaking through at the third run back.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 7th October 2019.....
Nobel Time led throughout in this trial to win in slick time. It may pay to forgive its debut in a hot race where it just went too hard in front. All trials either side of that run have been very good & it shouldn't have too much trouble winning a maiden this prep. Nobel Time won at its first start after this trial paying $5+ on all totes after opening at $14 fixed...........
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 9th September 2019.....
Red Can Man sat around 1L off the lead in the run, was 2L off soon after straightening, gave chase, levelled up at the 150m & pulled away to win easily by 3.2L from Fromwhere in good time. Red Can Man was excellent last prep & won't be a maiden for much longer. Red Can Man won his first start after this trial winning by 1L at Northam.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 22nd July 2019.....
Nurhaci sat 4-5L off in the run, was taken 3 wide into the the straight, joined in at the 150m & pulled away for a strong win in quick time. That was the trial of a horse who will be winning sooner rather than later. Nurhaci was beaten 10L on debut in July and as of September hasn't been seen since.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 15th July 2019.....
Excellent Dream sat behind the leaders in the run, took a split at the 250m, went to the lead at the 200m and cruised home under gentle riding to win easily by 1.3L from Amarillo Rose in very quick time. Wore blinkers. Excellent Dream is yet to debut but looks like it will be winning a race early in its career. Excellent Dream returned with an elevated heart rate on debut & was subsequently sent for a spell.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 8th July 2019.....
Pip led narrowly until straightening but put up 2.5L soon after & cruised home with the engines being shut off at the 100m to win in good time by 1.7L from Jarman. It has now won 4 of its 6 trials, although 4 of those trials have been over 400m. It will win in maiden grade. Pip ran 3rd on debut in July but as of September it hasn't been seen again.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 8th July 2019.....
Some Sort slipped on jumping then veered out significantly interfering with Invaluable, was 2L off early but levelled up at the 150m & pulled away to win comfortably. Nice turn of foot. No blinkers. Ignore its only start to date where it was a bit fizzy in the gates & did some mischief to its hock & was put straight out. Some Sort won its first race start after this trial paying $3.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 14th June 2019.....
Bruce Almighty jumped evenly but soon booted through to lead by 1.5L, led by same on straightening, led by 2L at the 100m & coasted home to win by 1L from Celtic Diva in good time. It looks a coming winner in a maiden grade race.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 20th May 2019.....
Super Teroitoa sat on pace but 5 wide throughout, literally was under a hold for the entirety of the straight when 3rd btn 1L behind Arvak. Has had issues over the last couple of years & was $2.30 fave when eased out of the race at its last start. The trainer is the sole owner of this one & must still be seeing something in a 6yo who has only had 3 starts.........Super Teroitoa has been disappointing in its 3 starts this prep & as a result is no longer a HTF.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 6th May 2019.....
Bright Diamond sat 3rd the fence & 2L off the lead on straightening, angled off the fence at the 200m, was 1L off at the 100m, hit the lead with 40m to go on to win by 0.2L from Tramika in quick time. Lovely trial. Bright Diamond hasn't been seen since this trial as of the 10th August. As such it is no longer a HTF.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 29th April 2019.....
Showmanship sat midfield & 3 wide until straightening where it was around 5L off the lead, it was pushed along gently where it took over at the 100m & cruised home to win easily by 1L from La Bella Miss. This trial merely confirms what we have suspected for some time - that Showmanship is pretty handy. Showmanship made its debut on the 12th June, 2019 where it won comfortably paying $2.47 with Betfair SP.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 15th April 2019.....
Showmanship sat off pace in the run but three wide, loomed strongly under hands & heels riding at the 200m, took over at the 100m & pulled away for an easy win in quick time from I'm Icey. All four trials have been spaced & with the exception of its first ever trial, all trials since have been excellent. Showmanship made its debut on the 12th June, 2019 where it won comfortably paying $2.47 with Betfair SP.
The trial below is from Bunbury on the 12th April 2019.....
Not Really True was joint leader until turning where it started to edge away under a hold, Chris sat high in the irons & very quietly in the straight & it was under restraint over the final 50m to win by 0.1L from Mini Winnie with a further 9L back to 3rd. Lovely trial. Not Really True has been disappointing in its two starts since this trial. As a result it is no longer a HTF.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 11th March 2019.....
Black Ducati led narrowly until straightening and then extended nicely to win by 4.5L from Sizzling Affair in particularly quick time. This was BD's second trial & it could not have been more impressive. Black Ducati won on debut at Bunbury on the 24th March by 2.25L paying $2.30 after opening at $2.60
The trial below is from Belmont on the 5th March 2019.....
Catherine Wheel jumped well to cross & lead after 100m but was soon joined by Top Shop who pressured it until straightening, Catherine Wheel put up 2L soon after & went on to win comfortably by 2.75L in quick time from Calag. Catherine Wheel initially caught our eye on the 15th of February & she franked that effort today. Catherine Wheel won on debut on the 20th March by 4.25L paying $2.50 after opening at $3.50
The trial below is from Belmont on the 5th March 2019.....
Downforce sat 1L off Sauvegarde until straightening, 2L off soon after, levelled up at the 100m & pulled away to win easily under gentle riding. Impressive, went better than Specialism (next trial after this one). Looks ready to break through this prep. Downforce ran 3rd at the two starts following this trial btn 2L on both occasions. It hasn't been seen since the 30th March 2019 and as such is no longer a HTF.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 25th February 2019.....
Validation led by half a length until turning, put up 2.5L soon after straightening, did it easily in the run home to win by 1L from Mexi Cola in quick time. Looks handy. The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 25th February 2019.....
Rio Del Mar sat midfield but wide throughout in running, it was only extricated into clear air past the 200m & ran home strongly from this point under gentle riding. She was doing her best work late & 1400-1600m will be ideal for this filly as she matures. She looks a coming winner this prep for sure. She may even be worth an early bet for the Sires Produce on the 19th April, 2019. Rio Del Mar was narrowly beaten on debut then came out & won next start on the 23rd March paying $7.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 4th February 2019.....
This trial is mere confirmation of our previous assessment of Amelia's On Fire below on the 21st Jan. Amelia's On Fire made her debut at Ascot on the 16th February, 2019 & won that race by 1.5L paying $1.40 after opening $1.70
The trial below is from Belmont on the 21st January 2019.....
Amelia's On Fire veered out slamming into the side of the barriers on jumping, was 2L off early, same at the 200m but worked home very nicely to run 2nd btn a long head behind Tajmali in quick time for a 400m trial with a further 5.5L back to 3rd. Lovely work from this 2yo filly by Sizzling & Simon Miller appears to have another smart 2yo on his hands.....Amelia's On Fire made her debut at Ascot on the 16th February, 2019 & won that race by 1.5L paying $1.40 after opening $1.70
The trial below is from Belmont on the 7th January 2019.....
Thaad was 3L off on straightening, 2L off at the 200m, hit the lead at the 50m then had the brakes applied to win by 0.5L from Veuve De Vega in good time. This one is an ex Team Hawkes galloper who shouldn't be long opening his account in WA for the Gangemi stable.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 31st December 2018.....
Indian Chant led narrowly until turning, had put up 2L by the time they straightened, pushed along & started to gap them in the run home to win by 3.75L from Miss Maranta with a further 2.5L back to 3rd. This was a particularly quick trial as well. Forget 2yo debut where not much went right in hot company. This one will be winning a maiden fairly soon. Indian Chant has been disappointing since this trial & as a result is no longer a HTF.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 3rd December 2018.....
This'll Testya led by 2L soon after straightening & just never got out of 2nd gear when winning by 2L from Apparition in quick time. This daughter of Testa Rossa looks well above average & will be breaking its maiden status very quickly, you'd imagine…..This'll Testya did accept for a race on the 20th December, 2018 but was scratched & has since been sent for a spell. As a result, it is no longer a HTF.
The trial below is from Geraldton on the 25th October 2018.....
Bossanova Babe sat 2nd in running around 2-2.5L off the leader, worked home strongly under gentle riding behind the winner who was ridden out to run 2nd btn 1L behind Fair Eugenie in quick time with the brakes applied over the final 50m. Looks a coming winner in a Geraldton maiden. Bossanova Babe has been disappointing in her two runs since this trial & as of 7th December, 2018 it is no longer a HTF.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 15th October 2018.....
For a horse who is renowned for missing the start, Bam's On Fire couldn't have jumped any better today. It led by around 1L until turning & had put up 2L by the time they straightened & cruised home under gentle riding to win by 1.75L in quick time with a further 2.5L back to 3rd. Bam's On Fire hasn't been beaten more than 4.5L in its 3 starts at Group level despite bombing the start on each occasion in those events. It has returned in terrific order as a 3yo & should break through quickly this prep. Bam's On Fire had 1 start after this trial on the 27th November where it performed poorly. It hasn't been seen since & as a result is no longer a HTF - although Bam's On Fire has since won 2 races at Caulfield in 2019..........
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 25th September 2018.....
Niccovi jumped best then throttled back to sit in 2nd spot until the 200m where it was given full bore, raced up to take over at the 150m & went on to win this trial in very quick time for a 2yo at this time of year. It will be winning races. Take note of the 2nd & 3rd horses as well. They both have good ability. Niccovi hasn't been seen since its debut on the 6th October, 2018 & as a result is no longer a HTF.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 17th September 2018.....
Miss Frost was one of the slower ones away & settled in an off pace position in the run, she pulled 3 wide on turning, 4 wide into the straight, was given a few gentle shoves & she responded by accelerating quickly to hit the front at the 200m then cruised home to win by 1.25L from City Ransom in quick time. Miss Frost was thrown into a Group 3 fillies race on debut then ran an excellent 3rd behind Admiral Promo in what was a high rating maiden by 2yo standards, before heading for a spell. Expect her to be breaking through quickly this prep. Miss Frost won at her first run back this prep starting at even money in Race 2 at Kalgoorlie on the 3rd October, 2018. She opened at $2.50 the day before.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 10th September 2018.....
Arcadia Queen was back near the tail in running, still around 6L off at the 250m but stormed home over the final 200m to run into 2nd btn 0.75L behind Sounds Of Then in quick time but was in front soon after the post. It will be winning a maiden fairly quickly. Arcadia Queen won on debut on the 19th September, 2018 paying $1.30 after opening at $1.50
The trial below is from Belmont on the 20th August 2018.....
Pablo's Poem was restrained soon after jumping to settle in the second half of the field, worked to an off pace position on turning, got bottled up a bit soon after straightening & was extricated to the outside at the 200m. He lengthened nicely from this point to run the leader down & grab the win in the shadows by a neck from Veebee in quick time. Pablo's Poem ran 2nd to Market Ruler at its only start to date & will definitely be winning a maiden if placed in one. Pablo's Poem won at its 2nd start from this trial paying $4
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 13th August 2018.....
True Defender sat midfield & 4 wide until straightening, 5 wide into the straight, still 4L off at the 200m but came with a powerful burst to claim the win in the final strides by 0.75L from Zedstorm in quick time. Definitely has a maiden win in it. True Defender won at its next start after this trial winning Race 4 at Belmont on the 30th August by 1.25L paying $2.50
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 13th August 2018.....
Regal Power sat 3rd in the run but in an off pace position, loomed strongly at the 200m, took over at the 100m & pulled away to win comfortably from Stares Andwhispers in quick time. Definitely has a maiden win in it. Regal Power won at its first start from this trial at Belmont on the 22nd August, 2018 paying $3.40
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 30th July 2018.....
Flirtini jumped brilliantly, led throughout & was never out of 2nd gear winning this trial in quick time by 0.75L from Promiscuous Miss who been ridden right out. Lovely trial from this 3yo daughter of Artie Schiller. Flirtini won on debut in Race 1 at Belmont on the 18th August, 2018 paying $2.70 on two totes after $3.20 was on offer that morning.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 9th July 2018.....
Samizdat sat last but around midfield in the run, was 5L off on straightening, was given two shoves at the 300m & responded by accelerating quickly to hit the lead at the 150m & cruised home to win by 1L from Primarily. Very nice gear change & looks a 2yo of some promise. Samizdat won on debut at Belmont on the 21st July paying $3.30 after opening at $5 on the Thursday prior.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 2nd July 2018.....
Gingerella led until straightening, was then 1.5L off Tripeletto soon after, took over again at the 200m & was just pushed along gently to win easily by 2.25L in quick time from High Calypso. Looks in great order & beat Double The Pro by 2.8L last prep. Another win doesn't look far away. Gingerella has not won in its two starts from this trial & as a result is no longer a HTF.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 18th June 2018.....
Colour Witness led by around 4L on straightening & wasn't overly exerted in the run home to win easily by 2.5L from Jacka's Mob in quick time with a further 2L back to 3rd. Colour Witness was only 1.5L off Saturia & Epic Grey on debut. It appears to have recaptured that sort of form again & should be winning a maiden if they place it in one. Colour Witness won at Pinjarra on the 12th July at its 2nd start from this trial paying $11 after opening at $13. Coincidentally, Jacka's Mob won on debut earlier on the same program.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 11th June 2018.....
Cosmic Eyes led by 0.75L until straightening, had put up 2.5L passing the 200m & cruised home under gentle riding to win easily in quick time from In The Moshpit. It had the bad habit of buckjumping last prep, so if its manners have been rectified, it will be winning a race sooner rather than later as it has good ability. Cosmic Eyes won by 7.75L at its second start from this trial paying $2.10 SP.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 8th June 2018.....
Supreme Force jumped best but then idled back to sit 3rd in the run. It was around 2.5L off on straightening, was given two cracks between the 150m & the 100m where it joined the leader & went home too well to win by a long neck in quick time. It was within 2L of Lady Le Jean, Epic Grey & Mizlecki in Open 3yo class when on debut back in January, then was tipped out. We expect him to be winning if placed in maiden grade over the next few weeks. Supreme Force broke through (not in maiden grade) by winning Race 4 at Belmont on the 18th July, 2018 paying $5.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 28th May 2018.....
Special Reward was 1L off until turning, had levelled up on straightening, took over at the 200m under gentle riding to career away & win by 6L from Party Night (winner of a race in town) with the brakes applied the final 50m. It looks like this 2yo won't be long in winning a race. Special Reward won on debut by 2.25L on the 6th June, 2018 paying $1.35
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 7th May 2018.....
Technical Limit led by 1L until straightening then kicked away & cruised home under minimal riding to win by 2.75L in quick time from Viv Rocks over 1450m. Ran quicker time than the Open 1450m heat prior & did it easier. Has placed in both first up runs & has run into some handy ones in its career to date. Shouldn't be a maiden for much longer. Technical Limit won at its second start from this trial at Pinjarra on the 14th June, 2018 paying $6.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 16th April 2018.....
Ouqba Jack sat in the one-one until straightening, pulled 3 wide to make its run & levelled up with the leader soon after, took over at the 250m & raced away to win by 3.25L in quick time from Song Of Vincent. Ran into a few handy types last prep & was never far away. Looks ready to be breaking through this prep at the provincials. Ouqba Jack broke through at his next start winning Race 4 at Ascot on the 25th April, 2018 paying $1.95 after opening at $2.40
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 9th April 2018.....
Enticing Star sat off pace/midfield in the run, stayed along the fence to use the cutaway in the straight & accelerated very nicely under minimal riding to cruise home & win by 0.75L from Arcadia Prince in quick time. After winning its 2nd race on the 19th July, 2017 the filly escaped from its stall during the running of R8 that day & got caught on a fence suffering abdominal injuries. It has clearly recovered from that incident & looks ready to resume normal transmission. Enticing Star won by 2L when resuming in Race 7 at Ascot on the 28th April, 2018 paying even money.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 3rd April 2018.....
Sariska sat outside the leader until straightening, took over soon after, was given full bore & careered away to win easily by near 6L in quick time. It did beat home How To Fly & Trakiato on debut back in late December last year & will be winning a maiden if they put it in one. Sariska broke through for its maiden win on the 10th May at Pinjarra paying $1.60
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 26th March 2018.....
Baron Bostock led narrowly on the fence until straightening, showed a nice turn of foot to put up 3L past the 200m then had the brakes applied the final 50m to win easily in quick time. This was Baron Bostock's first trial & Dan Morton looks to have a talented horse on his hands. Baron Bostock won at his 2nd career start winning Race 1 at Belmont on the 20th June, 2018 paying $4.50 after opening at $6.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 19th March 2018.....
Necklet sat 1L off until straightening, levelled up at the 250m, went to a clear lead at the 200m & cruised home under a hold over the final 100m to win in quick time by 1.25L from Prized Nemesis. Necklet is yet to contest maiden grade but if they put her in such a contest, just get on & queue up. Necklet broke through at her first run back winning Race 2 at Ascot on the 31st March, 2018 paying $3.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 26th February 2018.....
Our Bonnie Girl was back last & around 5L off on straightening, she pulled to the outside & showed a nice turn of foot to hit the lead at the 100m mark for a soft win in the end. She is a 3yo filly out of Smart Missile who had 1 start as a 2yo behind Cognac in June '17. She appears to have furnished nicely in that 8 month time frame & she definitely has a maiden win within her grasp. Our Bonnie Girl broke through for her maiden win in Race 2 at Pinjarra on the 27th April, 2018 paying $3.30
The trial below is from Ascot on the 13th February 2018.....
Daishio left the gates slowly & was 6L off after 300m, 4L off on straightening, worked home very strongly under no pressure to run into 2nd late to be beaten 1.5L on the line. It clearly has good ability & if it can rectify its barrier manners it shouldn't be too long in winning a race. Daishio hasn't been seen since winning a subsequent trial on the 26th Feb 2018 & as a result is no longer a HTF. Daishio later won on debut on the 25th July, 2018 paying $2.80
The trial below is from Belmont on the 5th February 2018.....
Invisible Pro sat up on the speed throughout & was ridden quietly until the 150m, was then given a few shoves until the 50m mark & pulled away to win easily by 1L from Analyzing in good time. Invisible Pro was only 2.5L off Perfect Jewel on debut then around 1.5L off both Thunderstrut & Rebellionaire in its following two starts. This was a nice trial & together with those form lines suggests that a maiden win is not far away. Invisible Pro won at its 2nd start after this trial by 1L at Pinjarra on the 25th February paying $2.30
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 29th January 2018.....
Melros Beach sat outside My Tradition throughout this trial but went to the line unextended in running 2nd btn 0.5L in quick time with a further 2.75L back to 3rd. Melros Beach has displayed poor barrier manners in its only two starts to date behind the likes of Perfect Jewel & Achernar Star, one of those being on a heavy track. It clearly has enough ability to be winning a maiden, so watch for it in maiden company this prep. Melros Beach won at its 2nd start from this trial paying $13 when saluting in Race 3 at Pinjarra on the 8th March, 2018.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 22nd January 2018.....
Driftstar jumped from the widest barrier but soon cut across to lead by 2L early, led by a length on straightening, 1.5L past the 200m, was given a few gentle shoves between the 200m & the 100m and powered away to win by 5L from Saetta in good time. Early speed & the ability to accelerate soon after straightening are vital ingredients in 2yo's & this one has them. Driftstar won on debut by 2.5L & was backed from $2.50 into $1.50 by the jump. There was still plenty of evens available 20 mins before the race.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 15th January 2018.....
The Big Show sat 2L off the leaders until the 250m, pulled to the centre of the track, hit the lead just before the 150m & careered away to win by 4L under minimal riding in quickish time. Very impressive. The Big Show has had 3 career starts for 2 placings & is yet to contest maiden grade. It looks a coming winner this prep. The Big Show resumed with a 1.3L win at Pinjarra on the 24th January, 2018 paying $3.40 on 2 of the 3 totes.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 8th January 2018.....
Classic Chant was having her first trial today. She jumped well & took up the running without too much trouble, put up 1.5L soon after straightening under her own steam & went to the line untested in running 2nd btn a short head behind Universal Warrior in quick time. This War Chant filly could have won this trial had Castle pulled the trigger & she looks one to keep an eye on in the next month or so. As of the 8th March, Classic Chant hasn't been seen again at the trials (nor races) & as a result is no longer a Horse To Follow - however it did win on debut winning Race 1 at Northam on the 6th May, 2018 paying $3.80 after opening at $6.50
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 2nd January 2018.....
Kelly's Callisto jumped well then was restrained back to 2nd last soon after but 3 wide, came widest in the straight & cruised home under minimal riding to grab the lead in the final 20m & win by 0.75L from She's A Galah. Impressive trial & shouldn't be long in winning a race. In fact, it might be worth an early ticket when the Karrakatta Plate markets open up. At this stage, connections intend for him to debut at the Ascot meeting on the 13th January, 2018. Kelly's Callisto hasn't been seen since a disappointing debut on the 13th January & as a result is no longer a Horse To Follow. Kelly's Callisto came out in its 2nd prep to place in all 6 starts - winning two of those.
The trial below is from Albany on the 22nd December 2017.....
Starorio was 2.5L off on straightening, given a few cracks from the 200m & went home best to win by 1.25L from Crafty Maddie in very quick time by 1050m trial standards with a further 7.75L back to 3rd. Watch for it on debut at Albany. Starorio made its debut on the 1st January, 2018 at Ascot & suffered lacerations during the race & has subsequently been sent for a spell. As a result it is no longer a Horse To Follow.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 18th December 2017.....
A Knight Of Pro sat just behind the leaders but as a result got boxed in while bolting for a run until the 150m, worked home strongly late but McGruddy shut the engines off the final 30m in running 2nd btn 1.25L in quick time. Has run well against the likes of Gunnago, Reveille & Regal Class. Won its maiden then a Class 3 last prep. Look for it at the provincials with McGruddy on. A Knight Of Pro won at its second start after this trial at Ascot on the 20th January, 2018 - note the first start back had Jason Brown on, the second start had Shaun McGruddy. It started at an SP of $2.90
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 11th December 2017.....
Groovershaker jumped well from out wide & sat on pace 3 wide throughout, joined in at the 200m under its own steam, given a few shoves from this point & pulled away to win by 1.75L in quick time. Impressive work. Forgive its debut back in June where it was very green as it had trialled very well prior. The trainer is the sole owner of this one & has been very patient given the horse is now a 5yo. Has good ability & should win a provincial maiden early this prep. As of the 3rd March, Groovershaker hasn't been seen since the 6th of January where it got its tongue over the bit & was diagnosed with heat stress. It ran 2nd in both starts following this trial but is no longer a Horse To Follow.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 27th November 2017.....
Where's Wally (red silks - black hat) was 7L off on straightening, came home along the fence but ran into a wall & went to the line under a hold to run 4th btn 3.5L behind Idiosyncrasy in what was a quick trial. Lovely work. This son of Rogano has won 2 of his 4 career starts to date (subscribers were on in his debut!) up to 1400m & he appears he will be adding to that tally in the near future. Where's Wally has had 3 races since this trial without placing in any of those runs. It is being poorly placed & as a result is no longer a Horse To Follow.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 6th November 2017.....
Aconite sat outside the leader until straightening, took over under gentle riding soon after & pulled away late in the trial to win by 2.75L from Thunderplump in quick time. Has trialled & raced well against the likes of Perfect Jewel & Rebellionaire in the past & this trial suggests that she won't be a maiden for much longer. Aconite has had 3 races since this trial & while it hasn't been beaten more than 1.5L in any of those runs, it is being poorly placed & as a result is no longer a Horse To Follow. It did finally break through winning Race 3 at Pinjarra on the 8th April, 2018.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 30th October 2017.....
Vital Blast led by 2L on straightening & was never out of 2nd gear in the run home to win by 4.25L from Rocking Rose in borderline quick time. This 3yo shouldn't be a maiden for much longer & did show ability behind Fabergine before spelling. As of the 30th January, 2018 - Vital Blast has not been seen at the races since 13th Dec '17. As a result, it is no longer a HTF.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 16th October 2017.....
Red Army was around 6L off on straightening, was only ever pushed along gently hands & heels in the run home & had them covered 50m out where it cruised to the line to win narrowly but easily from Soxy Beau in quick time. Trained by Grant & Alana Williams, Alana is one of two owners in this horse and it shouldn't be long in breaking its maiden status. Red Army won at start No.2 at Bunbury on the 15th November paying even money.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 9th October 2017.....
Dolcity sat midfield in the run, went to take a split between runners at the 225m but got chopped out, got the split at the 150m & went home too well over the 850m trial to win in quick time. This one is a 2yo yet to make its debut but looks one of the more mature youngsters for this time of year. As of the 26th November, Dolcity hasn't been seen since its debut on the 21st October where it ran 4th btn 2.5L behind Agent Pippa. As such, it is no longer a horse to follow.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 6th October 2017.....
Lies In Disguise jumped well to lead early but was soon taken on by Classy Marcy, was 2L off on straightening, just pushed along gently in the straight to get within 0.75L of CM in what was a quick trial with a further 4.5L back to 3rd. Lies In Disguise made a good debut behind Fabergino then forget start number two where nothing went right. Looks to be in for a good prep this time. Lies In Disguise had 4 runs following this trial & was most disappointing in each. As a result, it is no longer a Horse To Follow.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 2nd October 2017.....
Sophia's Secret sat midfield early but 4 wide, made a move on turning to be up near the leaders on straightening, joined in soon after, given a shake up up at the 200m & pulled away to win comfortably in quick time from Muskebello. Made its debut behind Fabergino in late April & looks to have made good progress during its spell & should break its maiden early this prep. Sophia's Secret led all the way when resuming to win by 2.5L & paying $3.40 on 2 of the 3 totes after opening at $10 fixed the night prior.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 26th September 2017.....
There are two horses to keep an eye on in this trial. Infernal Star is a grey horse who sat up near the lead but 3 wide throughout, was given a crack soon after straightening & extended really well to win by 2.5L from Fair Tequila in quick time. The next horse, Fair Tequila, sat back last but equivalent of midfield until straightening, was given a very quiet ride in the run home but ate up the ground very nicely under its own steam to run into 2nd btn 2.5L behind Infernal Star. Both horses look like they will win a race early in their respective campaigns this prep. As of the 10th December, 2017, Infernal Star hasn't been seen since its debut on the 14th October & Fair Tequila has been disappointing in its 3 runs since this trial. As a result, both are no longer Horses To Follow.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 18th September 2017.....
Colourful Charade led narrowly until straightening, kicked away soon after under gentle riding, was pushed along the final 150m to win comfortably by 2L from Shellylousan in quick time. Has placed 3 of 4 starts, all behind very good 2yo's, with the only miss when pulling up lame in its final start last prep behind Seannie at Listed level. The trainer has a 50% share in this one. Colourful Charade won at its 2nd start after this trial on the 22nd October, 2017 at Bunbury paying $9.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 4th September 2017.....
Rockon Tommy sat locked away 3rd on the fence until the 250m, pulled out looking for a run at this point, took a split between runners at the 200m, accelerated nicely & was given a quiet time over the final 100m to win easily by 0.75L from Necklet in good time. That is two excellent trials this prep for this horse & a win early in its career looks a formality. Rockon Tommy made its debut at Northam on the 14th September, 2017 where it won by 1L & paying $2.50 Top Fluc after opening at $2.90.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 28th August 2017.....
Sistakini was the slowest away & was last early but soon worked into an on pace pozzie after a few hundred metres, she loomed up under her own steam soon after straightening & took over under very gentle riding to win by 2.75L from Tap The Go Go in quick time. Sistakini is a 4yo mare & this was her first trial, so the Kersley stable have been very patient with her. She looks a good talent & a win should materialise early in her career. Sistakini bled from both nostrils at her 2nd career start & as a result is no longer a Horse To Follow.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 21st August 2017.....
Dynamite Dream jumped quickly & led all the way under no riding to win easily by 1.5L in quick time from Misty Metal with a further 3.5L back to 3rd. Dynamite Dream is a former HTF from March this year (check it out below). It will be winning a maiden race very soon although is more likely to be aimed at a midweek city race. Note that Misty Metal & Athlete (2nd & 3rd in this trial) have both come out & won first up. Dynamite Dream broke through on the 16th September, 2017 beating Saturia by 0.5L & paying an SP of $4.20 after opening at $10.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 14th August 2017.....
Mervyn had a share of the lead until turning, took over soon after straightening, was untested in the straight to win by a long head from Kia Ora Star with a further 4.5L back to 3rd. The time was quick as well. Mervyn was only 2.5L off Dainty Tess at its only run last prep & looks ready to break through in maiden grade this time in. Mervyn has been most disappointing in its 3 starts since this trial with an investigation by stewards into its most recent performance. As a result, it is no longer a Horse To Follow.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 7th August 2017.....
Night Beat was never out of 2nd gear & worked home strongly under gentle riding to run 3rd btn 2.25L behind Babble. Never wins trials but showed good ability last prep & was most unlucky behind One Short. An early win looks likely this prep & goes best over 1400m. Night Beat hasn't been seen since its unplaced return on a soft track on the 23rd August, 2017. As a result, it is no longer a Horse To Follow.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 24th July 2017.....
Angelisa sat on pace throughout, levelled up at the 200m, ridden along hands & heels between the 200m & the 100m & pulled away over the final 100m to win easily in quick time from Equity Free with a further 7L back to 3rd. This was impressive work & looks well above maiden grade. Angelisa made her debut on the 3rd August, 2017 & was incredibly weak in running a 1.75L 3rd on debut in Race 1 at Northam. That was a poor performance in a very weak race & as a result she is no longer a Horse To Follow.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 17th July 2017.....
Perfect Jewel sat midfield & 3 wide throughout, was 3L off at the 200m, 1.5L off at the 100m & went home strongly to win in quick time by 0.5L from Aconite with a further 1.5L back to Shezabutoo. Has won both trials, interestingly beating Aconite both times....Perfect Jewel won on debut on the 26th July, 2017 - by 2.75L & paying $1.70
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 19th June 2017.....
Danes Maree jumped well & cruised up along the fence to take up the running after a couple of hundred metres. That was the end of the section as she jogged home in the straight under a hold to win in quick time. We have long held a good opinion of her since her early trials & it doesn't appear as though she will be long in staying a maiden. Danes Maree won at her next start by 4.5L at Belmont on the 12th July paying $4.20 Top Fluc.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 12th June 2017.....
Lady Latte sat just behind the leaders on the fence & after taking a split between runners at the 200m, showed the turn of foot that we flagged in May of 2016 (see below). Not sure why she has been off the scene for a year, but she looks as good as ever & should break her maiden quickly in 2017. Lady Latte won at its debut on the 22nd June, 2017. It was heavily supported into $3.60 after opening at $6.50 & paid a Top Fluc of $4.60
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 6th June 2017.....
I'm Feeling Lucky led all the way to win easily here, however the important thing to note about this trial was the time. That is very, very quick by 1450m standards at Lark Hill & it is clearly ready to win early in its prep this time in. It was only grabbed late by Silverstream when resuming over 1400m back in December last year after winning a trial leading up to that return. Suspect it will resume over 1500-1600m this time & a win doesn't look far away. As of the 2nd August, I'm Feeling Lucky hasn't been seen at the races since this trial & as a result is no longer a Horse To Follow.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 29th May 2017.....
Burning Magic sat off pace & wide in running, was not asked for an effort in the run home but made up late ground to run 2nd btn 0.75L behind Classi Survivor. Has run into quite a few handy ones in its 12 starts to date & looks ready to win at the provincials this prep. Burning Magic has had 3 starts since this trial, all in town (city) - winning none. As a result it is no longer a Horse To Follow.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 15th May 2017.....
Forceful sat around 2L off the lead until straightening, 1.5L off passing the 200m, same at the 100m but kept chasing & just missed to run 2nd beaten a nose in quick time with a further 7.5L back to 3rd. Was 1L in front 50m past the post. It is a 2yo who is yet to face the starter but shouldn't be long in opening its account. Forceful won at start No.2 on the 14th June, 2017. It was heavily supported into $4.50 after opening at $8 & paid a Top Fluc of $7.50
The trial below is from Belmont on the 1st May 2017.....
Rogan Scent sat back near last until straightening & was around 6L off at this point, she was clicked up passing the 200m & displayed a very nice turn of foot from the 150m to hit the lead with 60m to go & win by 3L from Lady Sirocco. She is a 3yo filly by Rogano & trained by Fred Kersley. It shouldn't be too long before she is winning a race. Rogan Scent broke through for its maiden win on the 19th July, 2017 by 1.3L paying $1.50 Top Fluc (despite opening at $2.30).
The trial below is from Belmont on the 18th April 2017.....
Fabergino worked across from the widest barrier to sit just off the leader after 150m, was 1L off until straightening where it gave them windburn soon after, was eased down noticably the final 30m to beat Rubia Miss by 3.25L in what was by far the quickest 2yo trial of the morning & just plain quick by 2yo trial standards (Fabergino ran the same time as Caipirinha who won the next trial). Rubia Miss is no slouch being only 2L off Keeper Keen at its only start last November. Keeper Keen ran 2nd to Seannie in a Listed race when resuming in March. Fabergino is in the care of little known trainer Tiarnna Robertson, but she has quite a talent on her hands right now. It will be winning sooner rather than later. Fabergino stepped out on the 29th April, 2017 at Ascot & led all the way to win comfortably on debut after being heavily supported from $3.50 into even money in the final hour of betting.
The trial below is from Bunbury on the 13th April 2017.....
Top Of The Class was 5L off on straightening, was pulled wide in the run home & just jogged home under its own steam to run 2nd btn 1.25L behind Assurance. She won her only start in early January & it looks as if this daughter of Star Witness will be chalking up another win very soon. Top Of The Class resumed off the back off this trial at Ascot on the 29th April, 2017. It won by 1L paying $11.20 on S-TAB, $10.50 on NSW TAB & $14.70 on UBet. It opened at $15 fixed on the Thursday prior to the race.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 10th April 2017.....
Vital Dancer sat outside the leader until straightening, pulled away at the 200m with Art Series & did the better over the final 100m to win in quick time. This was Vital Dancer's first trial & it looks like an early runner. With trainer Brett Pope being one of the owners, he'll be keen to chalk up a win with this one sooner rather than later. Vital Dancer's sire, Vital Equine, is also the sire of Material Man, Socially Unique, Vital Edition & Vital Importance - all winners of 8 or more races each. Vital Dancer stepped out on the 19th April, 2017 & recorded a 2L win on debut paying $3.30 on 2 of the 3 totes.
The trial below is from Bunbury on the 27th March 2017.....
Fire Maker led all the way & didn't get out of 2nd gear to beat Replete easily who had been ridden out by 1.5L with a further 7.5L back to 3rd. The time was quick as well. Fire Maker has had one start in town as a 3yo back in October 2015 behind Three Votes. That has turned out to be a very strong race & Fire Maker trialled in similar fashion prior to that race to what it did today. Obviously, there have been issues since then, however it looks in good order now, so keep an eye out for it on the provincial circuit. A win should not be far away in that environment. Fire Maker was beaten 0.8L when running 2nd at Bunbury on resumption then ran 3rd at Narrogin on the 23rd April, 2017 (beaten by a 2016 Horse To Follow, Planet Nine). That is not good enough & it is now no longer a Horse To Follow. It did manage to win at its 3rd start from this trial at Pinjarra on the 11th May, 2017.......
The trial below is from Belmont on the 20th March 2017.....
Get The Vibe led narrowly until the 150m where it was overhauled by Achernar Star, which is nothing to be ashamed of. This was a very quick trial & there was a further 5L back to 3rd. We tossed up whether to make this filly a Horse To Follow after its previous trial where it beat home Watto's Fury (who has since run well behind Wacked Out at Listed level), but this trial cemented it. Follow it with big confidence if this one turns up at a midweek meeting on debut. Get The Vibe won on debut at Ascot on the 29th March, 2017 where it paid $3.30 for the win.
The trial below is from Pinjarra on the 13th March 2017.....
Just A Fluke led throughout under gentle pressure to win by 5.75L in good time in this trial. It trialled similarly prior to its debut last prep. Things didn't go right that day where it pulled up with an elevated heart rate & was found to be shin sore. It looks to be the same horse we saw at the trials last prep & a win does not look far away for this bloke. Just A Fluke won when resuming from a spell after this trial at Pinjarra on the 30th March, 2017 paying $3.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 7th March 2017.....
Dynamite Dream jumped quickly & led by 1.5L early with a further 2L back to 3rd, led by 1L on straightening, near 2L at the 200m, went to the line strongly from this point to win comfortably. This Denman filly looks to have good ability & a midweek 2yo race would be well within her grasp. It went back to the trials on the 3rd April where it won impressively again over 400m. That trial was purely to get it passed to race with blinkers. It does have issues in the barriers & needs a blindfold, but as you can see from its trials, it has plenty of ability. Dynamite Dream pulled up shin sore from its 3rd placing on the 8th April at Ascot. As a result it is no longer a horse to follow.
The trial below is from Bunbury on the 3rd March 2017.....
Amelia's Love led by 2L on straightening & never got out of 2nd gear as it went to the line untested to win easily by 2L from Dukeazza. She has won 2 of her 3 career starts & you could argue there were legitimate excuses in her only defeat. She looks in terrific order & will be adding to her winning tally again soon. After its race on the 19th March, 2017, trainer Mr J. Warwick advised that further Veterinary tests of the mare revealed it to be mildly lame in the near fore and would now be sent for a spell. As a result it is no longer a horse to follow.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 27th February 2017.....
Wacked Out jumped quickly & led easily by 2L after 100m, led by 2L on straightening, 3L at the 200m & cruised home under its own steam to win easily by 1.5L in fast time. That is two nice trials this prep (yet to race though) & shouldn't be a maiden for long in the 2yo ranks. Wacked Out won at start No.2 on the 18th March, 2017. It paid $48.40 on STAB, $67.10 in NSW & $83.10 on UBet. It paid $101 fixed on the NSW TAB.
The trial below is from Pinjarra on the 20th February 2017.....
Salsational was one of the slowest away & was back last after 200m, worked to midfield after 300m, took a split at the 100m to power through & win by 0.75L from Colour Me Crazy in quick time. It should debut soon & won't be long in winning a race by the looks. As of the 11th April, 2017, it has been 8 weeks since Salsational trialled & it has still not been to the races. As a result, it is no longer a horse to follow.
2016 Horses below & 2017 Horses above............
The trial below is from Belmont on the 5th September.....
Gee Boss jumped quickly & led by 1.5L early, same on turning, by 2L on straightening, was shaken up at the 200m & went on to win comfortably by 1.25L in quick time from Western Temple. Very nice trial. Gee Boss won on debut beating Sweet Ora in Race 6 on the 17th September, 2016. It paid $20+
The trial below is from Belmont on the 29th August.....
Seattle Stryker led narrowly until straightening, put up 1L soon after, led by 1.5L at the 150m & kicked strongly to hold off all challengers & win by 1L from Venus Ebony in good time. Seattle Stryker won at York on the 21st September, 2016 paying $7.50
The trial below is from Pinjarra on the 22nd August.....
Quilista led all the way here under no pressure to win by 1.5L from Trap For Fools. Did sport blinkers in this trial. This 3yo filly is soley owned & trained by Justin Warwick & had 2 starts as a 2yo, both behind Dainty Tess. It was ridden at the tail in those races & showed very good finishing speed in the second race to run 3rd btn 2.5L. She was very green in those races & did not wear blinkers like she has done in this trial. Watch for those to stay on when she resumes......
The trial below is from Belmont on the 15th August......
Tow Rope sat outside the leader in this trial & dominated from the 150m mark under minimal pressure. It has won both trials to date & shouldn't be long in winning a race once it makes its debut, assuming it is placed in a maiden race.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 25th July.
Sixpence Spent sat on pace & showed a nice turn of foot to put the trial away over the final 250m winning by 1L from Shanghai Grey. It will go very close when it returns to the races.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 18th July......
One Short sat 4th but off pace early & on the fence, was caught in a pocket soon after straightening, got clear at the 200m & hit the lead at the 100m under a hold & went on to win effortlessly by 0.75L from Petite Dancer. This one looks like it will resume as a 3yo & shouldn't be long in winning another race. It won on debut back in January '16.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 11th July......

Diamond Tonique sat 3rd the fence until straightening, gave chase soon after under no riding, hit the lead at the 100m & went home to record a soft win in quick time by 0.75L from Chancery with a further 3.5L back to 3rd. Lovely trial. Has placed 2 from 3 when first up & last prep was only btn 1L by Scales Of Justice when resuming. Found trouble that day too. The prep prior, beat home Vega Magic in running 3rd to Lord Conrad when resuming. It looks ready to run a ripping race first up this time in.
The trial below is from Lark Hill on the 11th July......
LARK20160711H12 from Perth Racing on Vimeo.
Lord Kronos jumped well & soon booted through to lead, probably as a result of over-racing, was given its head on straightening & a few slaps & went on to win the trial easily by 3.5L from Still Love Me in good time. This one has only had 1 other trial back in December '15 & won it in similar fashion over 400m. According the jockeys we spoke to, the track was more heavy than the Soft 6 rating attributed on the day.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 4th July......
Planet Nine led by 2.5L on straightening & went home strongly to win by 3.75L from Prayer in Cee in quick time. It was only 3L off Hot Goods on debut. Went poorly last campaign but was found to have a wind problem & subsequently underwent surgery to rectify it. Seems to have worked & it should be winning early this prep. Planet Nine finally cracked it for a win at its 3rd start after this trial, winning at Narrogin on the 23rd April, 2017 paying $8.
The trial below is from Belmont on the 4th July......
Three Votes doesn't jump so well but it soon turns on the afterburners on & scooted away with a big lead to win easily in very, very quick time. Three Votes goes enormous early in a prep, has always rated well above average & it should be winning when resuming - on the assumption that it will not race further than 1000m. Back it with confidence. You're A Rum'in does an excellent job in running 2nd.
Postscript: Three Votes won at its 2nd start from this trial on the 6th August paying $4.40

True Dragon jumped well to lead clearly early after beating off a few challengers for the lead, led by 2L on straightening & went home to record a strong win by 4.25L in quick time. This 3yo son of Oratorio is yet to be seen at the races but shouldn't be too long in winning a race.
Postscript: True Dragon was unplaced at its next two starts, bleeding from both nostrils at the second start on the 21st July, 2016. As a result it is no longer a horse to follow.

Count Kala sat 4th in an off pace pozzie until straightening & accelerated nicely from the 250m to hit the lead passing the 200m. It went home to win comfortably by 1.75L from Eight Double Eight in quick time in soft conditions. Count Kala was only beaten 1.3L by Patrimonio on debut at Pinjarra & looks to have improved during its spell. Look for it in a provincial maiden over 1000m.

Woven was never released from a hold & looked very good running 4th btn 1L by War In Paris in quick time. You'd be looking for this one in the country or at the provincials.
Postscript: Woven was unplaced at its next three starts, performing poorly in all 3 despite being backed from $41 into $6 at its 3rd run back. Despite the plunge, Woven could only finish 14th of 16 runners beaten 9L. It did feature significantly in the stewards reports in its 2nd & 3rd starts from this trial, but it has had enough chances & was poorly placed at all 3 starts in our opinion. As a result, it is no longer a horse to follow.

We've had a wrap on Audience since February 2015. It is not a leader, really, but led here under no pressure at any stage to win in very quick time in Soft 6 conditions. It is lovely work & looks ready to be winning early this prep. Justin Warwick is its fourth trainer & may well have found the keys to victory.
Postscript: Audience won its next start after this trial in Race 3 at Pinjarra on the 23rd June by 1L paying $1.90 at the jump after being $2.30 that morning.

There are two horses to follow this week. Cash On Call was terrific on pace & responded well at the 250m to take control of the trial & Smith shut the engines off at the 50m. It is unbeaten in two trials now. The second horse to watch for comes from an off pace position but was wide throughout. Prying Tom wasn't overly exerted in the run home for W Pike but attacked the line strongly to run 2nd. This was a quick trial & both horses look to have abilities beyond maiden grade. This trial was on Soft 6 ground.
Postscript: Cash On Call won its 2nd start after this trial in Race 1 at Northam on the 30th June paying $2.20 while Prying Tom has not been seen at the races since this trial (as of the 30th July) so it is no longer a candidate as a Horse To Follow until we see it trial again. Prying Tom did eventually win on debut by 1.25L on the 1st September, 2016.

Lady Latte is a 3yo filly by Viscount & she won't be long in winning a race. This is the second of two impressive trials trials to date. Watch her accelerate along the fence soon after straightening under no pressure to win the trial easily.
Postscript: Lady Latte has not been seen at the races since this trial (as of the 22nd July) so it is no longer a candidate as a Horse To Follow until we see it trial again.

Note the run of Dante's Destiny. It sat 3rd until turning, ran into 2nd & 2.5L off on straightening, given a shake up at the 250m & a crack at the 150m where 2L off Bay Publisher, stuck to its task over the concluding stages to run 2nd btn 1L by Bay Publisher in quick time with a further 5.25L back to 3rd. Good trial from the unraced 3yo son of Demerit.
